In loving memory of David A. Straus.  Born April 15, 1941 in Bronx, NY.  Passed on February 19, 2025 in Long Beach, CA.

With profoud sadness, we announce the passing of David Straus.  A beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, grand-uncle, and friend, who left this world on February 19, 2025 at the age of 83.  A man of immense humor, charm, wit, and wisdom, he influenced many people as a flavor chemist his entire life.  After his graduation from Brooklyn College in New York, he loved his vocation mentoring many students, influencing countless lives with his creations, and he enjoyed an admirable reputation among other professionals in the industry all around the world as well as here in the United States.  He served as President of the Chemical Sources Association, a Fellow member of the British Society of Flavourists, and a Certified member of the Society of Flavor Chemists.

A lifelong lover of movies, music, dancing, traveling, food, socializing with his friends, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life–good conversation, a well-cooked meal, and the company of those he cherished most.  His wisdom and humor engaged everyone he met during his lifetime.  He served as a volunteer fireman, skier, swimmer, avid collector of paintings, construction work, talented handyman, creative thinker, political observer, and reader of books.  His absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.

A celebration of life will be announced later.  May his memory be a blessing.
