Jack Fastag



Hopewell Twp.: Jacobo “Jack” Fastag Katz, 53, died July 12, 2018 at Chandler Hall in Newtown, Pa.

Born in Mexico City in 1964, Jack moved to the United States in 1988 to attend Cornell University where he earned his Master of Science Degree in 1991. Prior, he earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemical Engineering from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City. In his early life, Jack studied at the Peterson School in Mexico and the Colegio Hebreo Tarbut, a private Jewish school in Mexico City.

Jack worked his entire professional career (25 years) for David Michael & Company in Philadelphia rising to the position of Senior Flavor Chemist. Professionally, Jack served as Past President of The Society of Flavor Chemists, an organization devoted to the advancement of the field of flavor technology and related sciences. Jack was also an adjunct Professor at Cornell University and Drexel University.

Jack was a member of Mensa International and a member of Origami USA. Jack loved acting, classical music and cooking. He was a talented violinist, pianist and world traveler.

Son of the late Mario Fastag, sweet and beloved Jack is survived by his mother Miriam Katz of Mexico City; his husband Lee Bryant Rosenfield and children Ethan and Eliana Fastag Rosenfield of Hopewell, NJ; his sister Monica and brother-in-law Lee Ponsky of Cleveland, Ohio; his brother Alejandro (Alex) and sister-in-law Karen Fastag of Mexico City, six nieces and nephews and cousins in the United States, Israel, Australia, Mexico, and South America.

Graveside services will take place in Mexico City. A memorial service will take place in New Jersey subsequently.
