Born April 9, 1924, in Orange, N.J., he was the son of the late Earl J. Sr. and Elsie (Sterner) Merwin.
Mr. Merwin served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He was a member of the Boumi Temple, the VFW in Timonium, the American Chemical Society, the Institute of Food Technologists, and a founding member of the Society of Flavor Chemists. Earl was a Flavor Chemist for McCormicks in Baltimore.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Lawrence J. Merwin of Jupiter, Fla., Jean Lantz of Epping, N.H., Barbara Hohman of Thurmont, Claudia Merwin of Harrisburg, Pa., and Thomas Merwin of Ashburn, Va. Ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his brother Albert Merwin of Georgia also survive him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Fiala, and his brother, Walter Merwin.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, where services will be held Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Les Sims officiating. Interment will follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonuim.
